Business Services Sector
Charterhouse Group has had significant experience in the Business Services sector through investments such as AAT Communications, Inc. (owner/manager of wireless tower sites), Lason, Inc., (business process outsourcing) American Disposal Services, Inc. (waste management), Charter Communications L.P. (cable television) and Insignia Financial Group, Inc. (real estate asset management). Today, our portfolio includes several rapidly growing service companies, including Oakleaf Waste Management (outsourced waste logistics) and LogistiCare, Inc. (non-emergency medical transportation solutions provider).
Our sector focus is based on the following underlying themes:
- Many highly fragmented sub-sectors exist within Business Services
- There is a continuing trend for companies to outsource non-core business functions
- Numerous opportunities exist to create or develop companies which can bundle services and products
- Technology can enable companies to be first movers in creating new business service models
The Business Services space lends itself to the employment of our build-up strategy. Our sector team is attracted to companies that have strong 'infrastructure backbones', consistent recurring revenue streams and low capital expenditure requirements. Our focus is on identifying platform companies which are, or can be, 'solutions providers' and which present opportunities to build vertical or national businesses and/or new business service models. A key part of our approach is to work with managers who have significant experience in the services sector and who are adept at integrating multiple acquisitions while preserving (and improving upon) strong corporate cultures.
